Scissors attack in Yaroslavl store: what is known

After the incident on 19 January, the store on 8 March Street in Yaroslavl resumed normal operations. The premises were cleaned of blood, broken shelves were put back in place, but customers continue to discuss what happened.

Under surveillance cameras, a 39-year-old man with a criminal record attacked a 60-year-old female customer. He grabbed scissors from the cashier«s table, held them to the woman»s throat, and when she tried to break free, he inflicted wounds on her arm and head.

8 March Street is located in the quiet residential Krasnoperekopsky district, surrounded by apartment buildings and private houses. Local residents were shocked by the incident.

Store employees are actively gossiping about the attack. A cashier, addressing a customer, asked: «Didn»t you come to us the day before yesterday?« Upon hearing a negative response, she continued: »Did you hear what happened? A customer was attacked! And they say a cashier was also injured. I don«t know, it wasn»t my shift.«

According to eyewitnesses, before the attack the man behaved inappropriately: he shouted, scattered goods, and overturned display cases. Then he lay down on the floor, after which he got up and grabbed the scissors.

Eyewitnesses helped to subdue the aggressor before the police arrived. The victim was taken away by doctors, and the store was quickly put in order. One of the cashiers noted: «I»m still in shock, just can«t believe it!»
Law enforcement officials initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 213 of the Russian Criminal Code (hooliganism using an item as a weapon). If found guilty, the suspect faces:
- a fine from 500,000 to 1 million rubles (approximately $5,600–$11,100 at current rates);
- compulsory labor for up to five years;
- imprisonment for up to seven years.
During questioning at the police station, the man was asked how he makes a living. He replied: «My parents support me. It»s embarrassing.«
