Previously convicted Ryazan man suspected in church shop robbery

The suspect allegedly stole a silver chain from a church shop in Ryazan to fund his drug habit.
A representative of a church located in the center of Ryazan contacted the police and reported that the church shop had been robbed. Witness interviews led police to the suspect — a 30-year-old Ryazan resident who lives nearby and often visits commercial establishments.
Previously, the man had been convicted several times for theft and crimes related to illegal drug trafficking. He is now detained.
According to the investigation, on that day, the Ryazan resident was under the influence of prohibited substances and was trying to obtain another dose. To get money, the man allegedly entered the church shop, asked an employee to show him a silver chain, and then, threatening the woman, stole it. Police believe that an hour later, he sold the jewelry to an acquaintance and spent the money on drugs.
The Ryazan resident faces up to five years in prison, according to the regional police department.
