Omsk Woman Sentenced to 6 Years for Defrauding Orphans

Fatima Yaminova, a 57-year-old from Omsk, has been sentenced to six years in prison for defrauding orphaned children of nearly 13 million rubles.

In Omsk, 57-year-old Fatima Yaminova was convicted of fraud with funds from orphaned children. According to investigators, Yaminova built good relationships with orphanage residents who had mental illnesses. She bought food, clothes, provided shelter after they left the institution, and controlled their bank accounts. After that, she took all the money and threw the children out onto the street.

From January 2017 to December 2023, she stole almost 13 million rubles (approximately $144,400 at current rates) from six graduates.

In February 2025, the Omsk woman pleaded guilty, after which she was released on a pledge not to leave. In September, Yaminova disappeared — she was put on a federal wanted list. The woman was detained at a railway station in Omsk, as she wanted to go to Moscow. After that, Yaminova was again taken into custody. She explained her behavior by saying she wanted to go to the special military operation.

As a result, the judge sentenced the Omsk woman to six years of imprisonment in a general regime colony. This was reported by the regional prosecutor«s office. She was also ordered to fully compensate the damage caused to the orphans, as told by the Investigative Committee. The press service of the courts of Omsk Region clarified that the verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
