Man Attacks Customer with Scissors in Yaroslavl Store Rampage

It seems nothing reminds of the emergency that happened on 8th March Street in Yaroslavl on January 19. The hall has been washed of blood, broken shelves restored. The grocery store is operating normally, except that visitors whisper as they pass by the checkout. Near it, right under surveillance cameras, an unstable person cut with scissors a female customer of the store.

The attacker put scissors to the victim«s neck. When she started to break free, he cut her. On the day of the incident, witnesses said that the customer was taken to the hospital. What motivated the aggressor—investigators will have to find out.

Still Gossiping

8th March Street, where the ill-fated grocery store is located, is surrounded on all sides by apartment buildings. One could say that this small area—is the very heart of the residential Krasnoperekopsky district. It«s quiet here, no active car traffic, nearby—a private sector that seems to have no end or edge.

On the afternoon of January 21, besides us, in the chain store where the attack occurred, only a couple of people. It seems that an influx of customers in this place—is a rarity. Because of that, the happened rampage seems even more wild to locals.

— Didn«t you come to us the day before yesterday? — the store cashier fussily asked a customer, scanning promotional goods.
She answered negatively. The salesperson continued:
— Have you heard what happened? A customer was attacked! And, they say, a cashier was also injured, — the seller animatedly muttered. — I don«t know, it wasn»t my shift.
The Monday emergency in the store is interesting not only to employees but also to customers. Most learned about the attack from the news. And some, it seems, came here just to gossip.
He Shouted and Scattered Goods
Little is known about the attacker: 39 years old, with more than one conviction behind him.
According to witnesses, the unstable person entered the store and started shouting. He scattered goods and overturned displays with small items that are usually sold near the checkouts. Then he lay on the floor. Got up again.
At some point, in a fit of rage, he grabbed scissors from the cashier«s table. He put them to the throat of a 60-year-old store visitor, but she began to break free. It was at this moment that the attacker wounded her—he hit her arm and head.
Witnesses to the emergency helped to restrain the unstable person. Then the duty squad arrived on the scene. The attacker was restrained and taken to the nearest department. The victim, according to witnesses, was taken by doctors.
Two days after the incident, the trading hall was cleaned of blood, shelves were put back in place, goods were laid back on the shelves. However, a bad aftertaste remained with the locals.
“Still in shock, shaken to the core!” — the cashier of the grocery store briefly summarized.
“Aren«t You Ashamed?”
After the incident, police opened a criminal case under the article “Hooliganism committed with the use of an item used as a weapon” (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Russian Criminal Code). By law, if the suspect«s guilt is proven, he could face real prison time. Now the issue of choosing a measure of restraint for him is being decided.
Crimes under Part 2 of Article 213 of the Russian Criminal Code are punishable by a fine ranging from five hundred thousand to one million rubles (approximately $5,600 to $11,100 at current rates) or in the amount of the wages or other income of the convicted person for a period of three to four years, or forced labor for up to five years, or imprisonment for up to seven years.
Law enforcement published part of the interrogation. In the department, the suspect was asked how he earns a living.
— Parents support me, — he answered without batting an eye. — Ashamed.
