Former Deputy Governor Convicted for Fraud with Shareholders

A court in Nizhny Novgorod delivered a guilty verdict to former deputy governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Valery Anglichaninov. He was found guilty of fraud with the funds of shareholders of the elite residential complex «Dom na Gorkogo».

This is already the second verdict for the ex-official. In 2023, he received four years in a penal colony for a similar crime during the construction of a house for FSB employees in the Moscow region.

The new case involved the embezzlement of almost 274 million rubles (approximately $3 million at current rates) from investors in the Nizhny Novgorod residential complex.

Anglichaninov headed the construction unit in the regional government under Governor Valery Shantsev, but left the position in 2010.

He began the construction of «Dom na Gorkogo» in 2015 through the company «Intersiti», where he held the position of deputy general director.

The project was planned to be completed by 2018, but the work dragged on for a decade.

As a result, the company was declared bankrupt, and another organization — «Khutor» — had to complete the construction, which put the building into operation in the fall of last year.

The prosecutor«s office, taking into account the previous verdict, demanded ten years in prison for Anglichaninov.

However, the court imposed a punishment of six years in a general regime penal colony for the combination of two criminal cases.
