Drugs discovered in Ust-Ilimsk home after child killings

The investigation suspects that the father who killed his children in Ust-Ilimsk during the New Year holidays may have been taking psychoactive substances, Anatoly Sitnikov, head of the regional department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (ICR), said at a press conference on January 21.

«The father is what we call a kitchen despot, a family brawler. The family situation was linked to constant emotional turmoil, and we believe that to some extent, these emotions may have been influenced by the use of psychoactive substances, as drugs belonging to the father were found and seized during the investigation,» the statement said.

In Ust-Ilimsk, on the night of January 3, two children were killed: a 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy. Their bodies with signs of violent death were found in an apartment on Karl Marx Avenue. Their father became the suspect: after killing them, he wounded himself with a knife and later died in the hospital.
