In June 2008, 45-year-old Anatoly Sedykh was detained in Lipetsk. His list of crimes turned out to be long and horrified even seasoned investigators. This obese family man raped and strangled at least 12 girls over five years. And these are only the proven cases — there may have been more victims.

Investigators gathered evidence of Sedykh«s guilt in three »clean« murders and nine murders with rape. The man was found sane, and on 19 April 2010, the Lipetsk Regional Court sentenced him to life imprisonment. He would die in 2023 — by committing suicide. And the story of his crimes even before his death became the basis for one of the episodes of the series »The Method« (18+).

The exact number of girls killed by the Lipetsk Strangler remains unknown to this day. Whether it was 12, 14, or, as some suggested, several dozen — it will probably never be established now. The maniac himself denied his guilt until the end — he said he was incapable of murder and had never even been in a fight. And Sedykh«s family defended him, speaking of his devoutness and decency.
