In Balakovo, a son stole gold jewelry worth 1.2 million rubles (about $12,600 at current rates) from his mother, part of which he managed to sell to resellers. Details of this story were reported on January 21 by the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD).
In December of last year, a 43-year-old local woman contacted the police in Balakovo. She reported that gold jewelry had been stolen from her home. The amount stolen, according to her estimate, was 1.2 million rubles (about $12,600). While investigating the case, police identified her 23-year-old son as the suspect.
The young man had keys to his mother«s house and knew where she kept her valuables. Taking advantage of her absence, he went to her home and took the gold. After that, he removed precious stones from the jewelry and sold the gold to unknown buyers. He did not have time to sell the stones, as police detained him.
The Balakovo Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) initiated a criminal case under paragraph «b» of part 4 of article 158 of the Russian Criminal Code, regarding theft on an especially large scale. Under this charge, the young man faces up to 10 years in prison. He was also detained under article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code, pending a decision on preventive measures.
