Spitz Dies After Grooming Session in Surgut Salon

In Surgut, a Spitz died after a grooming session at one of the local grooming salons. The pet developed pulmonary edema. According to its owner, if the salon had reacted promptly, the dog could have been saved.
Anastasia, a resident of Surgut, said that before the grooming, she warned the groomer: her 9-year-old Spitz Richik is a stressed dog, and one needs to be careful with him. If something goes wrong, it«s better to stop. Richik had been to groomers before and always came out of procedures healthy and happy.

When the owner came for the Spitz, she found him suffocating in the waiting area. The pet«s tongue was turning blue.
«I grab him and ask the specialist what happened, she tells me that 10–15 minutes before the end of the procedure he started breathing more frequently. At that, she didn»t stop, didn«t call me, didn»t take measures to deliver him to a veterinary clinic, just finished with him quickly and put him in the waiting area without supervision,» writes the dog«s owner in the public group “Black List Surgut” on VKontakte.
The owner urgently took the pet to the nearest veterinarian. At the clinic, the Spitz was immediately diagnosed with pulmonary edema, given injections, and placed in an oxygen chamber. But they couldn»t save the little one. Meanwhile, according to the owner, in the summer Richik had a check-up and, despite being 9 years old, was healthy.
Anastasia added that the same evening, the owner of the grooming salon contacted her. She apologized, offered to buy a new dog for the girl and give discounts on future procedures. Anastasia demanded the video recording of Richik«s grooming from the cameras in the salon. They promised to send the video but kept postponing it for various reasons.
Representatives of the grooming salon where the Spitz died said that something like this happened for the first time.
«During Richik»s grooming, everything proceeded normally. Yes, indeed, during the removal of mats he was stressed, but he calmed down during the grooming. But, I repeat, because of this, not a single dog has died in over 10 years of work (we remove mats with a slicker brush on wet fur, additionally using sprays to make the process as calm as possible for the pets).
Approximately 10 minutes before the end of the grooming, he started breathing more frequently. The groomer finished the grooming and put Richik in the waiting area,» reported the salon.
Representatives of the salon also added that groomers are not veterinarians, they cannot determine that rapid breathing is a sign of pulmonary edema. The groomer who groomed Richik is deeply affected by what happened and is now afraid to work with dogs.
Earlier we reported that in Surgut, a groomer cut off part of a puppy«s tail and hid it from the owner.
