Rescued sable returns to Altai inspector with companion
The sable named Khan, rescued and released, periodically visits his human friend in the Altai Mountains.
In Altai, a sable named Khan returned to his rescuer-inspector after six months spent in the taiga. This was reported by employees of the Altai Biosphere Reserve in a group on the social network VKontakte.
An amazing friendship began in the summer of 2022 at the Kokshi outpost, located on the shore of Lake Teletskoye. Reserve inspector Sergei Bakshin witnessed a hawk carrying a small, still blind sable kit in its talons. The bird of prey dropped its prey, and Sergei, without hesitation, took the helpless cub. Thus began the unusual relationship between a human and a wild animal.
At first, Khan lived in Sergei«s house, where he was fed from a saucer and where he curiously explored the world. »He ran at my heels like a little dog,« the inspector noted.
However, as he grew older, natural instincts awoke in Khan. He chose an independent life in the forest, but with one condition: every autumn, with the onset of cold weather, he returns to his rescuer.
«As soon as the snow melts, Khan goes into the forest. And in autumn, with the cold, he returns and looks for something to profit from humans,» the inspector says.
This spring, Khan, as always, went into the taiga. He was not seen or heard for a full six months. And now, in October, the old acquaintance appeared again. But this time, he was not alone. Sergei noticed another sable, of a reddish color, next to Khan.
«Apparently, this is his girlfriend,» the inspector assumes.
Family life seems to have made Khan more serious. Now he is no longer that tame little one.
«He doesn»t let himself be petted, he growls,« they said at the reserve. But treats, such as dry milk and other delicacies, he still accepts with pleasure.
