Yakutia food inflation over 10%, butter and socks lead hikes

Food prices in Yakutia rose by 10.4% from 2024 to 2025, excluding vegetables and fruits. Vegetables and fruits also saw a 9% price increase, according to the republic«s Rosstat website.

Overall inflation for all goods and services in the republic stood at 9.2%. Non-food items became more expensive by 6%, and services by 10%, making food the most significant expense for residents.

Specifically, meat prices increased by 8%, milk by 14%, eggs by 7%, bread by 16.6%, and alcohol by 7.2%. Butter saw the highest jump at 21%. Clothing rose by 2.95% and footwear by 2.83%, with socks surprisingly surging by 7.39%, while fur prices increased only 4.16%.

Utility service payments in the republic surged by 10.46%, led by electricity at 12.18%. Apartment rents grew by 14.89%, but some categories will get a break: over 1,000 apartments are to be built in Yakutia in 2026 under the «Far Eastern Rent» housing program. Studios will lease for 5,000 rubles per month (approximately $50 at current rates). For comparison, one-bedroom apartments in Yakutsk rent for a minimum of 40,000 rubles (about $400).
