Russian women's cats left without food after US detention

The Samara women have been under arrest for three days.
The case of two residents of Samara, detained in the U.S. after accidentally entering a military base, has taken on new dramatic details. Beyond legal troubles, the women face a personal tragedy: four cats have been left without food or water in their American rental apartment for almost a week.
Friends of Natasha and Kristina report that five days have passed since their detention. No one has access to the apartment where the animals were left, leaving the pets trapped without care.
As reported by the outlet SHOT, neither relatives nor friends have been allowed to see the detainees. There is no contact with them. Authorities are checking the Russian women«s documents. There is a version that the women may have had visa issues, and this, not just the base incident, could be the reason for their detention and possible placement in a deportation center.
For one of the friends, Natasha, this story could have especially severe consequences. According to her acquaintances, she was soon to receive U.S. citizenship, but now that opportunity is lost. The women face either up to six months in prison or deportation with an entry ban.
As a reminder, Kristina and Natasha were arrested when, following navigation directions while looking for a McDonald«s, they accidentally drove onto the territory of the Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton in California.
Now the friends and relatives of the women have to solve two problems at once: seeking legal aid for the detainees and trying to somehow rescue their unsupervised pets on another continent.
