Omsk Residents Warned of 'Lunar Smiley' Sky Event

Jupiter is among the planets visible in the night sky over Omsk on January 23.
Today, January 23, information appeared in Omsk Telegram channels that city residents could see a «lunar smiley» in the sky. The authors of the publications claimed that the Moon, Saturn, and Neptune would allegedly align in the constellation Pisces and form a figure resembling a smile.
A correspondent from NGS55.RU sought clarification from the director of the Omsk Planetarium, Vladimir Krupko. According to the specialist, such a sight in the sky is impossible.
«How can a smiley be made from three celestial bodies? Moreover, Neptune is not visible to the naked eye and you can«t see it with every telescope. It is the farthest in the Solar System.»
The planetarium director specified that today Omsk residents will be able to observe the Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn.
«Today in the sky, we can only see Jupiter, Saturn, and the Moon. The Moon is very close today, there will be a conjunction. The Moon is from Jupiter almost across the entire sky: the Moon in the west, Jupiter in the east.»
Earlier, NGS55.RU showed what the polar aurora looked like over Omsk Oblast.
