Omsk Man Gets 12-Year Sentence in Absentia for State Treason

A 52-year-old man from Omsk has been sentenced in absentia to 12 years in a strict-regime colony for state treason after transferring $500 to Ukraine's National Bank.

The Omsk Regional Court sentenced in absentia a 52-year-old local resident accused of state treason. The court found that in 2022, the Omsk resident transferred $500 to the bank account of the National Bank of Ukraine. Thus, he financed the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), as reported by the regional prosecutor«s office.
In the same year, he left Russia and is still wanted on federal and international warrants.
The Omsk resident was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in a strict-regime colony. The court also ordered the confiscation of 30,000 rubles (about $400 at current rates) — the amount the man transferred to the National Bank of Ukraine. The sentence has not yet come into force.
The term of the main punishment in the form of imprisonment will be calculated from the day of the convict«s detention on the territory of the Russian Federation, or from the day of his detention on the territory of a foreign state upon request for legal assistance or for his extradition to the Russian Federation, the press service of the regional court said.
