Temperature Swings: Kuban Residents Warned of Frost and Black Ice

Residents of Kuban in southern Russia are warned of cold and icy conditions, but temperatures are expected to rise sharply mid-week.

In Krasnodar Krai on Tuesday, January 27, it will be cloudy with clear spells. At night, mostly no precipitation, in the morning and daytime, rain, wet snow, and snow are expected in places. In the south of the region, fog is forecast. On the roads — black ice.

In some areas on the night and morning of January 27, severe black ice is possible, with wet snow sticking to wires and trees. An east wind of 4-9 m/s with gusts up to 18 m/s is expected.

At night, thermometers will drop to -3…-8 °C (27…18 °F), in the northern half of the krai — to -9…-14 °C (16…7 °F). During the day, the air will warm up to +2 °C (36 °F), in the south — to +14 °C (57 °F).

In Krasnodar during the day on January 27, light rain is possible, with black ice expected on the roads. An east wind of 4-9 m/s will blow, at night the temperature will be -4…-6 °C (25…21 °F), during the day — up to +1…+3 °C (34…37 °F), reported the regional hydrometeorological center.

According to the service «Yandex Pogoda» (Yandex Weather), from Wednesday (January 28) in Krasnodar, it will warm up to +10 °C (50 °F) during the day. The temperature will continue to rise and by Thursday reach +16 °C (61 °F).
