Omsk Warned of Severe Cold with -40°C Frosts

Residents of Omsk have been warned of a severe cold snap that will begin tomorrow, January 21. An official storm warning has been issued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM).
According to meteorologists, from January 21 to 25, the average daily air temperature will be 10 degrees Celsius below normal. Frosts of -30 to -35 degrees Celsius (-22 to -31°F) are forecast. In some areas, thermometer readings will drop to -40°C (-40°F).
‘Across the Omsk Region, from January 21 to 26, 2026, a dangerous phenomenon is expected — abnormally cold weather with average daily air temperatures 10 or more degrees below the climatic norm. In some places — severe frost. The minimum air temperature will be -30 to -35°C (-22 to -31°F), in some areas — down to -40°C (-40°F) and below.’
Rescuers are urging residents of the region to be cautious: they should avoid prolonged stays outdoors and dress warmly.
