Children freeze in Mogoytuy kindergarten where it's 5°C, authorities unresponsive

Children are freezing in the Buratino kindergarten in Mogoytuy, where the temperature remains at 5–11 degrees Celsius (41–52°F), one of the parents told Chita.Ru on January 21.

During the peak of the frost, the kindergarten did not work for about a week because it was too cold inside. Now, only a few children from the entire group attend the kindergarten — parents do not leave them there because of the cold.

“Since the beginning of winter, we’ve been constantly using heaters. Should the temperature in a kindergarten be like this? Children are freezing, they wear two sweaters and sleep in them without undressing,” the interviewee of the publication says.

The woman suggested that the reason for the cold is the old building. Last year, residents of Mogoytuy left a complaint about the condition of the building and the cold on the “Direct Conversation” with Governor Alexander Osipov. They were told that the kindergarten had not yet been included in the list for major repairs.

No one comments on the situation. For five days, comments have not been provided by the press services of the regional Ministry of Housing and Utilities and Ministry of Education, the head of the education department of the Mogoytuy district Ulyana Sanzhieva, and acting head of the district Bolot Namzhilov. Also, Chita.Ru failed to get a comment from the press service of the government and from the deputy chairman of the government, head of the Agin-Buryat Autonomous Okrug (ABO) Ananda Dondokov.
