Chelyabinsk Region to warm up to -5°C after bitter cold

The cold Siberian anticyclone will be replaced by warming. From January 28, temperatures of -5°C (23°F) are expected in Chelyabinsk, the regional hydrometeorological center reported on Monday.

The forecast indicates a transition from harsh freezing conditions to comparatively milder weather with weekend snow.

«At the beginning of the week, abnormally cold weather persists in some areas with minimum night temperatures down to -30, -35°C (-22, -31°F),» the hydrometeorological center specified. «From January 28–31, a warm air mass will spread to the Urals via southwestern flows, and the region will significantly warm up. Average daily temperatures are expected to be above normal by up to 8 degrees, meaning night temperatures will be around -10, -15°C (14, 5°F), and during the day about -5°C (23°F).»

Meanwhile, forecasters promise heavy snowfalls closer to the weekend.

Recall that on Monday, due to the cold, lessons were canceled for students in grades 1 through 7. Early in the morning, it was -28°C (-18°F) outside.
