Warehouse fire causes transport collapse, stranding 30 trams

On the morning of January 28, a warehouse caught fire near an office building on Dzerzhinsky Street. Due to this, traffic was closed there. Nine hours later, it has still not been restored: Dzerzhinsky Street, like the whole city, is gridlocked.

The fire at the warehouse near the office building at 59 Dzerzhinsky Street broke out early in the morning. Firefighters and rescuers were called to the scene, and Dzerzhinsky Street was closed. As a source from the city rescue service told 59.RU, wooden pallets and cardboard boxes caught fire in the warehouse, and the building could collapse because the room became like a blast furnace. Two 59.RU sources shared that this warehouse is a former workshop of the Dzerzhinsky Factory (ZID).

As explained to 59.RU by the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS), the fire was localized at 7:38, yet Dzerzhinsky Street remains closed.

The difficult road situation due to the fire was reported in the Telegram channel of the Road Safety Center.

«On Dzerzhinsky Street, near house 47, traffic is still closed! — wrote in the post. — The situation at the site of fire aftermath liquidation remains complex. The traffic police regiment continues to completely close traffic on this section. Vehicles are being turned around before the work site. A traffic jam has formed, stretching to Gaidar Square. At the square, employees of the »Perm Krai Road Safety Center« are regulating traffic, but unfortunately, it doesn»t help much — the flow is very large.«

Drivers are recommended to find detour routes.

According to online maps, due to the congestion on Dzerzhinsky Street, a three-kilometer traffic jam has stretched to the Opera Theatre, and the entire center is at a standstill.

On Dzerzhinsky Street, 30 trams have been standing all day, as the route to the only operating depot «Krasny Oktyabr» (Red October) passes through there.

The Ministry of Transport also appealed to motorists in its Telegram channel.

«On Dzerzhinsky Street, the liquidation of the consequences of the major fire that occurred in the morning is still underway. In the area of house No. 47 on Dzerzhinsky Street, traffic is completely closed, including for trams. The peak hour is ahead! We ask motorists to plan their travel routes in advance and take into account the increased traffic load on Gaidar Square.»

Passengers were asked to choose bus routes. All of Perm is stuck in severe traffic jams.
