Dozens of trucks have accumulated on the federal highway P-228 Syzran — Saratov — Volgograd, unable to proceed due to the imposed restrictions.
The reason for the traffic closure is thick fog, which has significantly reduced visibility on the road. As a precaution, movement for freight and passenger transport has been restricted on the section from kilometer 512 to 672.
The Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) for the Volgograd Region provided an official explanation:
Due to unfavorable weather conditions in the Volgograd Region (fog, limited visibility of less than 50 meters), as a precaution, movement restrictions for freight and passenger vehicles have been introduced until further notice in the Gorodishchensky, Dubovsky, and Kamyshinsky districts from kilometer 512 to 672 of the federal highway P-228 Syzran — Saratov — Volgograd.
The restriction has been in effect since 22:00 on January 29. When it will be lifted has not yet been announced. Rescuers recommend that drivers use alternative routes.
