Moscow Fare Rules: Wait for Green Check on Validator

Fares should be paid immediately upon entering the transport
Muscovites have been reminded of the basic rules for paying fares on city public transport. Fare evasion can result in a fine of 5,000 rubles (approximately $56 at current rates), and the same amount applies for improper use of a social card. The fine must be paid within 60 days, otherwise the penalty will double.
Public transport passengers are advised to top up their travel cards in advance. And to pay the fare immediately upon entering city transport. Even on short trips, it is important to wait for the green check mark on the validator: if payment fails on the nearest one, approach another.
Every passenger must pay their own fare. This includes children from the age of 7. The Moscow Citizen Card and cards with «Yediny» (Unified) passes for 30, 90, and 365 days must also be tapped on the validator. And if a passenger uses a social card, they must carry a document confirming their eligibility for the benefit. For convenience, the capital«s transport department recommends linking bank or travel cards to the »Moscow Metro« app.
“Fare payment on city transport helps us make journeys even more convenient. All funds go towards updating the vehicle fleet, launching new routes, and developing modern services. Moreover, it helps correctly calculate transport load and distribute it more efficiently. Also, paid fare guarantees an insurance payout in case of an emergency. I thank all conscientious passengers,” said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
