Galiamov: Work on Second Metro Line Has Begun

The likelihood of a second metro line appearing in Yekaterinburg has significantly increased, as work in this direction is already underway. This was reported by the acting first deputy mayor in charge of transport and construction, Rustam Galiamov.
«The regional and city budgets have allocated funds for the development of a technical and economic feasibility study. I think we will begin this work in the first quarter of this year. Today, the preparation of technical specifications and the announcement of an auction are underway. This work will include route selection, surveys, and a smooth transition to the design phase,» said Rustam Galiamov.
He noted that large-scale work lies ahead to determine the route of the future line, obtain state expert approval, and reserve land plots. These steps are necessary to assess the final construction cost.
According to Galiamov, the main directions for extending the underground line are the districts with the highest passenger traffic. «The fact that the work will begin is not just talk. I think the auction will be announced in late February or March. Our analysis shows that the biggest passenger traffic is in two districts: Akademichesky and ZhBI. There are many proposals, including creating a combined branch line that could serve these two districts,» added the acting first deputy mayor.
Earlier, Yekaterinburg Mayor Alexei Orlov announced the construction of two new metro stations and spoke about the timeline for starting the underground design work.
