In Novosibirsk Region, preparations are beginning early for the spring flood, which could be especially strong in 2026. This was reported by the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the region.

At an operational meeting on 26 January, Governor Andrey Travnikov warned officials about the high probability of a severe flood due to the large amount of snow and unstable weather. Precipitation in the region has already been 10–30% higher than last year, and in Novosibirsk in November and early January — more than twice the norm.

Specialists will focus on preventing «land flooding» — the inundation of streets, courtyards, and low-lying areas. For this, storm drains, drainage channels, and locations where ice jams form on small rivers will be inspected intensively.

«In February, the regional Ministry of Natural Resources will begin a commission-based inspection of all hydraulic structures, primarily dams and water discharge systems, to assess their readiness for the safe passage of large volumes of meltwater,» clarified the Ministry.

Before the thaw begins, plans for the work of services will be prepared, and residents in risk zones will be informed.

Meteorologists forecast that the maximum snow cover thickness will persist until approximately 10–15 February, and then begin to decline.
