Yaroslavl hockey club Lokomotiv has announced the extension of the contract with forward Maxim Shalunov. The agreement is set for two seasons and will be valid until 2028.

Shalunov is a native of Chelyabinsk and a product of the local Traktor school. He began his professional career in 2009, playing for the Junior Hockey League team Belye Medvedi (White Bears). He moved to Lokomotiv in 2021.

He scored his first goal for the Yaroslavl club on September 7, 2021, in a match dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the aviation disaster that claimed the lives of the previous team roster. Over five seasons in Yaroslavl, the forward has accumulated 185 points, scoring 104 goals and making 81 assists. It was Shalunov who scored the decisive «golden» goal in the Gagarin Cup final.

Other Lokomotiv players will also take part in the upcoming KHL All-Star Game 2026. Alexander Radulov has been chosen as the captain of one of the teams, and Georgy Ivanov is included in the lineup. Yegor Surin has made it to the young stars team.

The All-Star Game is an annual exhibition match featuring the best players of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). In 2026, four teams will be represented:

  • KHL Ural Stars (players from Avtomobilist, Traktor, Metallurg, and Salavat Yulaev),
  • KHL RUS Stars (Russian stars),
  • KHL U23 Stars (young talents),
  • KHL World Stars (foreign players).
