In Yekaterinburg, 178 dilapidated residential buildings are scheduled for demolition by 2030. A program to improve housing conditions has been in place since 2021, but its implementation is moving slowly.

The house on Lenina Street was originally constructed in 1934.

The situation has somewhat accelerated with the introduction of a renovation program, but it primarily affects buildings in areas attractive to developers. In remote locations like the Shabrovsky settlement, residents wait for relocation for years.

After the publication of the current list of houses slated for demolition, Yekaterinburg resident Maria spoke about her home at 29 Lenina Street. The building was declared an emergency and scheduled for demolition back in November 2019, but it still hasn«t been vacated.

«Our house has already fallen into a third such program, but they still can»t relocate us and demolish it. If you could see our living conditions, we were simply forced to flee from there to rented housing. All they offer is to move into a maneuver fund, into dormitories in Uralmash (a district of Yekaterinburg). That«s how we live: the administration declares such a large number of houses for relocation, making it seem they»re doing great work, but we continue living with a stove in a wooden house and are forced to endure such conditions,« Maria complained.

The family occupied a three-room apartment, but all were forced to move into rented accommodations. Maria moved to the city in 2022, her sister in 2023, and their mother at the end of 2024. Meanwhile, Maria«s sister has two small children, and Maria»s husband is a participant in the special military operation, but these circumstances are not taken into account by the administration. The woman noted that the family has appealed to various government bodies, but there has been no positive result.

Currently, only one family remains in the house. The building«s condition is critical: due to a makeshift water supply system laid through the apartments, pipes freeze in the absence of heating, leaving residents without water. Inside, walls are collapsing, wallpaper is peeling, and dampness and cold are everywhere.
