Yekaterinburg man falls into coma in Turkey, virus suspected
49-year-old legal assistant Alexei Bystritsky from Yekaterinburg went on vacation to Turkey with his common-law wife, but unexpectedly fell into a coma on November 4. Now Alexei«s parents cannot arrange his transportation home.
His wife Larisa told E1.RU that she lost Alexei at Antalya airport when their flight was delayed. She had to fly back to Yekaterinburg because the couple ran out of money. She also had his phone and passport with her.
«On the same day, an ambulance took him, his blood pressure rose. Doctors called me from the hospital, said he would rest for two or three days. I bought a ticket, and then they told me his oxygen saturation dropped, they urgently put him into an induced coma. That is, when I arrived, he was already in intensive care», — Larisa said.
Alexei»s wife explained that he never had serious health problems, only complaints of high blood pressure. By November 18, doctors were preparing the Yekaterinburg resident for transportation, but the insurance company still hasn«t found a plane to redirect him to Yekaterinburg:
«Insurance companies are refusing airlines. They say it»s not the season now, there are few planes and they are all full. The person has been in a coma for three weeks, he needs to be brought out».
Larisa suspects that her husband caught a virus during the vacation: at the sea or through the air conditioning. Initially, he was diagnosed with pneumonia, and now his already weakened body is being attacked by another infection. Doctors continue to fight for his life.
«He could have caught the virus in the hotel. His temperature rose to nearly 40°C (104°F) on November 8. Now he has developed another infection because he has been lying in a coma with this tube for three weeks», — Alexei«s wife added.
Earlier we reported how a photographer from Yekaterinburg fell into a coma during a vacation in Thailand. 33-year-old Daria Tolstukhina went to Asia with two friends. On April 15, a few days before the flight home, the girl ended up in the hospital. On April 23 a decision was made to disconnect her from the ventilator.
