Two micro-explosions reported at Volgograd supermarket fire scene

In Volgograd, on the afternoon of January 24, a fire broke out in a two-story building on Angarskaya Street. According to the Emergency Ministry, goods in one of the chain stores renting space at 98b Angarskaya Street caught fire. We visited the scene and are looking at what remains after the fire.

The first to report the incident were readers of V1.RU. According to them, the fire broke out in a hardware store of the Fix Price chain. Thick clouds of smoke rose over Angarskaya Street and were carried by the wind towards the Tsaritsa River floodplain.

On January 24, a fire was reported in the Dzerzhinsky district of Volgograd, the press service of the rescue department said. In a two-story building, merchandise on the second floor is burning over an area of 100 square meters. Fire and rescue teams are battling the blaze. Thirty-five people were evacuated, with no casualties.

In video footage sent to the editorial office by V1.RU readers, it can be seen that fire units from several fire stations were deployed to the scene, with ambulance teams and emergency gas service crews on standby. At 2:36 PM MSK, it was announced that the fire had been contained over an area of 100 square meters.
«On the street, there are only store employees and Emergency Ministry personnel now,» said V1.RU correspondent Irina Yakovleva, who is at the scene. «It reeks of smoke. All stores in the building are closed. An employee of Magnit on the first floor said she was counting money when she smelled burning. »Our colleagues, the girls, told me, \«Fix Price is burning,\»« the woman said. »We all immediately evacuated, and no one was hurt. We don«t know the extent of the losses yet—the Emergency Ministry isn»t letting anyone in. We«re waiting for management.»«
The Magnit Cosmetic section was also damaged in the fire. Eyewitnesses claim that just before the fire, they heard two micro-explosions. The exact cause of the blaze will be determined by specialists from the Volgograd regional branch of the Russian Emergency Ministry.
