Student Describes Classmate's Attack: 'Two Explosions, Then We Ran to Hide'

This morning, January 22, a 7th-grade student broke into Multidisciplinary Lyceum No. 37 in Nizhnekamsk, attacked a cleaner with a knife, and was detained. One of the teenage attacker«s classmates told a 116.RU correspondent how it all happened.

«We were sitting in our first class—algebra—when someone started speaking quickly and unintelligibly over the loudspeaker. After that, we heard two explosions in the corridor, we ran to hide, and then we heard a gunshot. Later, we could hear moans in the hallway,» a 7th-grade student told us.
The sounds were likely from firecrackers and a signal device, which the attacker set off on the building«s floors.
Our interviewee said that after hearing this, the students remained in the classroom for about another 20 minutes before everyone was taken outside. According to him, the schoolchildren have already been sent home.
«They say there was blood on the second floor,» the boy noted.
As the schoolboy told us, the kids were very scared. His classmate described the attacker as a strange boy. According to our source, the 7th-grader liked bands with terrorist-related themes. The classmate also noted that no one at school had ever picked on the attacker.
«He had good friends, but he didn»t like girls,« our source added.
During the evacuation, the classmate no longer saw the teenager. He assumes that by that time, the boy had already been detained. Our source noted that everyone was in a state of shock and «his parents—especially.» He also added that there were metal detector frames at the entrance to their school.
As previously reported, the 13-year-old teenager inflicted wounds on the cleaner and tried to hide; he was detained by Rosgvardiya (the Russian National Guard). The worker received medical assistance. Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belyaev stated that the children were not injured. The only student injured was the attacker himself when he fired the signal device. The attacking student was found to have a knife, a mask, and tactical gloves. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 3, Article 30 and Part 1, Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code (attempted murder), and Part 1, Article 293 (negligence).
