Men Killed in Fires in Two Saratov Region Districts
Fires occurred yesterday evening in the Volsky and Balashovsky districts of the Saratov Region, killing elderly people. Details of the incidents were reported today by the press service of the regional EMERCOM (Ministry of Emergency Situations).
At the Kleny railway station in Volsky district, a flat in a private one-story brick house caught fire yesterday. Neighbors noticed the fire and called firefighters at 18:18. Three units of equipment were dispatched to extinguish the blaze.
The fire area was 80 m2. Upon arrival, EMERCOM employees found the body of a deceased 74-year-old man in the flat.
In Balashovsky district, a fire report was received by the 112 service at 22:01. A private house in the village of Ustanovka was on fire. The house was completely engulfed in flames, with a fire area of 60 m2. During the extinguishing, rescuers found the body of a man in the house; his identity is being established.
According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was careless handling of fire while smoking. To avoid such cases, EMERCOM advises:
do not smoke in bed;
ensure that cigarettes are fully extinguished;
equip smoking areas with ashtrays;
install a fire alarm in the home that can alert to a fire with a loud sound.
