Maria Glikina Murder Unsolved After 11 Years

Exactly 11 years ago in Nizhny Novgorod, one of the most high-profile and shocking crimes occurred. 19-year-old student Maria Glikina was raped and murdered in the very center of the million-strong city — just a few steps from the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). The murder happened in the distant year of 2014, but the criminal has still not been found. On the anniversary of Maria Glikina«s death, NN.RU recalls the girl»s story and tells at what stage the investigation is now.

Maria disappeared on 8 November 2014. She spent the last evening of her life with former classmates at one of the establishments on Skoba. Around 10 p.m., the girl said goodbye to her friends and set off home on foot.

After an hour and a half, her relatives grew worried and started calling her friend. She answered the phone and replied in an alarmed voice that she would call back later, but then her phone was already turned off.

Relatives immediately organized a search, combing the route where Maria could have passed. The search went on for two days, during which time many concerned people joined in.

The girl«s body was found on 10 November in an abandoned house on Studenaya Street. Initially, a version was considered that Glikina was hit by a car, and the culprit, wanting to avoid punishment, hid the body from prying eyes. However, later criminologists established that the girl was killed, and before that, she was raped. It is possible that at the moment of the last call, Maria had already met her killer.

Alas, the person who took the young girl«s life has still not been found. Since her death, thousands of men have been investigated in the case. The only leads investigators had were a photofit, camera recordings, and genetic material taken from the crime scene. Moreover, they checked for involvement the murderer of his own children and pregnant wife Oleg Belov, the magician from »House of Horrors« Viktor Yarmin, as well as the notoriously known incel Alexei Podnebesny.

As reported by NN.RU in the regional department of the Investigative Committee (SK), as of today, the investigation of the high-profile case continues. Experts continue to analyze DNA samples from other men — in total, about several thousand people. But no other data on the progress of the investigation is reported.

Concerned people send there photos of men who resemble the criminal»s photofit, as well as other high-profile stories that, in the activists« opinion, may somehow be connected to the murder of the Nizhny Novgorod woman.

After Glikina«s death, her page in a sense continues to live. Concerned people send her virtual gifts, write warm words in the comments.
