Major fire on Samara outskirts extinguished after five-hour battle

In the early hours of Tuesday, January 27, emergency services in Samara responded to an urgent call in the city«s Kuybyshevsky District where a large fire had broken out.

Representatives of the regional Main Directorate of Russia«s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) reported that around 1:00 a.m., an unused building at 17 Belorusskaya Street caught fire. The emergency department stated the fire area covered 600 square meters.

Local residents shared videos of the fire and speculated about its cause on social media.

Eyewitnesses shared videos of the incident on social media, suggesting the location had housed a catering establishment. Local residents offered two different theories about the cause of the blaze.

«Was it set on fire? Can you believe it, the shashlyk spot burned to the ground? It was operational! The grill burned up,» Samara residents speculated online.

Firefighting efforts continued until morning. The fire was localized at 2:21 a.m. and fully extinguished by 5:43 a.m. A total of 32 emergency service personnel and 10 special vehicles worked at the scene.

Due to the nighttime fire, police and firefighters were forced to close a section of Belorusskaya Street. The closure affected the stretch from Karavannaya Street to the «Neftemash Plant» bus stop in both directions.

«Buses No. 5d, 26, and 119 are running along Narodnaya Street with a turn onto Obuvnaya, without stopping at the »Sukhaya Samarka Settlement« stop,» explained representatives of Samara Avto Gaz.

As reported to 63.RU by residents, huge traffic jams formed in the Kuybyshevsky District. According to the Yandex Maps service, traffic speed in this part of the city did not exceed 5–10 km/h.

Another major fire had erupted earlier in the Bezenchuksky District of Samara Oblast on the evening of Sunday, January 25. The fire broke out at a farm located in the village of Vladimirovka, covering an area of 250 square meters.
