In a private sauna in Prokopyevsk, where five teenagers died the previous evening, fire safety rules were grossly violated. On Sunday, February 1, the investigative committee of the region reported that the owners ignored measures to protect the establishment from fire.
According to the investigation, the service business was organized by an individual entrepreneur and his brother in a rented premises on Kubanskaya Street. The burned sauna did not meet fire safety requirements. It had no accessible emergency exits or firefighting equipment. Moreover, all employees worked unofficially.
On January 31, 2026, the establishment«s administrator, knowing about these violations, let six teenagers in without adults. She left them alone and several times added firewood and coal to the stove, intensifying the combustion. After that, around 8:30 p.m., a fire broke out in the building.
As a result, five teenagers aged 15 to 17 died from carbon monoxide poisoning, as they could not escape the premises in time. Only one of the young visitors survived, who managed to run out into the street.
Law enforcement officers have already detained the sauna administrator and continue to search for the owners. The 36-year-old employee has been charged.
