Mothers mourn closure of Ufa's maternity hospital No. 8

Residents of the Chernikovka district express sadness over the closure of their local maternity hospital.
At the end of 2025, news spread in Ufa about the closure of the maternity hospital in City Clinical Hospital No. 8. Most likely, the decision was made back in summer, when it was closed supposedly for repairs (and all other information was called untrue). But now authorities have officially acknowledged that reopening is not planned. On social media, former patients of the institution shared their memories—here are theirs.
A nostalgia post was started by a former doctor from this institution, Nerkes Zinnurova. She worked there for 7 years and now saves lives in the children«s resuscitation unit at the 17th City Children»s Clinical Hospital.
One of the popular comments is from a Ufa resident who said he was born within the walls of maternity hospital No. 8 35 years ago.
«A wonderful maternity hospital, very kind and caring people worked there. This is very unfair,» shared a Ufa resident.
«Thank you to maternity hospital No. 8 for refusing me with a blood pressure of 200 and preeclampsia, sending me to the Republican Clinical Hospital. Both I and my son are alive,» wrote another.

The doctor worked at the maternity hospital for seven years and saved more than one life.
Another woman said that her entire family was born in maternity hospital No. 8: herself, her husband, and three children.
«All three times I was surrounded by care, I was supported, I was given advice. Thank you, maternity hospital number 8, for being in my life! I will miss it very much,» she wrote.
«Wonderful doctors. Very kind, indeed, a very gentle attitude towards women. I remember very well when the head of the department delivered my baby,» recalled a woman.
«I remember wonderful, caring midwives, excellent doctors. How cultured everyone is in the admission department,» said another.
«I remember maternity hospital No. 8 with love! My wonderful son was born there, who started school this year. Wonderful nurses there who love both the babies and taught mothers how to care for them. And Valery Petrovich Shuldashov [gynecologist] is a legend, it seems like half the city knows him. I wish the staff to find themselves and successfully realize themselves in other workplaces!» shared another resident of the district.

The maternity hospital served the community for several decades before its closure.
Another Ufa resident said she gave birth in maternity hospital No. 8 on the advice of friends and relatives, and then she herself advised everyone to go there. She says the team was friendly and welcoming.
«How could they close it? Only here were such sensitive and wonderful women,» stated another.

Many families have familiar memories of the hospital«s corridors and facilities.
Another Ufa resident shared that she managed to give birth to her second child there in 2025, shortly before the closure.
«Now there»s nowhere to go for the third one,« she stated.
«This is truly the best maternity hospital I have seen. The attitude of doctors and medical staff is simply top-notch, I never encountered rudeness. I was upset when it was closed on my due date. This is the maternity hospital where the nurses know every [patient], almost by name, worry about them as if they were their own, there»s something to compare it to. I was hospitalized for preservation several times, and each time, it was like home,« noted another.

The medical team at the hospital provided dedicated care for many years.
A city resident said he registered his wife at an address closer to the maternity hospital so that she would be taken there to give birth.
Also in the comments, people called for collecting signatures, complaining to the Ministry of Health and personally to the head of Bashkortostan (as if it were up to him). Besides that, they criticized calls for women to give birth.
«How can you simultaneously shout from every corner about the demographic crisis, supposedly do everything for the birth of children, and close a maternity hospital?» stated a Ufa resident.
But the closure or opening of maternity hospitals is unlikely to affect demography. Moreover, as correctly pointed out in the comments, in Chernikovka there is its own perinatal center, as well as another maternity hospital. Some say conditions are bad there, but according to other mothers—everything is fine in those places.
However, negative reviews for maternity hospital No. 8 can also be found on online maps: in «2GIS» it has a rating of 4.7, for example. There are higher and lower ratings in Ufa—we studied what mothers like and complain about.
