The Ufa Civil Defense Department stated that the population warning systems were not activated yesterday. Earlier, some residents of the city reported that in several districts—in particular, in Chernikovka and Nizhegorodka—a siren sound was heard.
Specialists from the Civil Defense Department assured that no warning was issued. In their opinion, residents might have mistaken the noise from the railway of a passing train for the sound of sirens. This, as explained by the department, was influenced by weather conditions.
‘The air is frosty and thin, which is why the audibility is very good,’ emergency service employees said.
