Traffic Jam Grows in Yekaterinburg After Flyover Opens
On 30 January, a huge traffic jam formed on the Yegorshinsky approach in Yekaterinburg. A reader sent a video recording and linked the situation to the opening of a new flyover section near the Kalina concern.
«Previously, you could get to the Botanical district and even to Solnechny through «Kalina» in half an hour. And now they«ve opened this new flyover. They made two lanes for exit and one lane for entry. In the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening—there»s a wild traffic jam. Cars are lined up from the Blyukherovsky Bridge to «Kalina»! This didn«t happen before, only sometimes in the mornings. And now everything is at a standstill, I»ve been standing here for 45 minutes already,» a motorist reported.
A request has been sent to the city administration to clarify whether the emerging transport problem is related to the commissioning of the new flyover.
Earlier, traffic on Komsomolskaya Street in the direction of the interchange near «Kalina» was restricted. The passage is expected to be closed until summer 2026 for the construction of an underground pedestrian crossing.
The construction of the major interchange in this area was initially planned to eliminate chronic traffic jams. The project envisaged more than doubling the section«s capacity—from 5,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour.
