Today, part of the Temernik market in Rostov was temporarily closed. The governor called it a hotbed of crime. We asked Rostov residents how they feel about the market«s closure. Opinions are divided. Some believe the market was in demand and was closed to make way for another residential complex. Others are sure that over the years, Temernik has turned into a »snake pit« where crime reigns. And a third group has no doubt that the market will reopen once the paperwork disputes are settled. We collected comments from readers of 161.RU.

«The last time I was at the Temernik market was 14 years ago. I bought a fishing rod as a gift and other fishing gear. Since then, neither I nor my acquaintances have visited this market. From which I conclude: for city residents, it is not in high demand. But sellers from stanitsas and districts come there to stock up, they take cheap knitwear, work clothes, shoes and then sell from their cars in the stanitsas—that»s the only thing, it seems to me, that makes this market useful and to whom.«

«It»s right that they closed it: where there«s migration, there»s crime. And scatter the migrants, the illegals, deport them all.«

«Even if fashionistas are rejoicing now, let»s be honest: who didn«t buy clothes there in childhood? It»s a legendary spot for all of Rostov.«

«The market is over 30 years old. If it weren»t relevant, it wouldn«t have survived to this day. Did they really sell and buy to themselves? So, there are categories of people who bought there. It»s easier to close than to restore order, that«s a fact. Why should the authorities solve such a problem… Well, and the land for development hasn»t been canceled either.«

«The market dictates the rules. If it works, it»s relevant. Again, someone needs the land. Thousands of people will be left without jobs.«

«They closed the part that had no documents, or expired documents. Everything»s okay, they«ll do it—and then work on, but now legally.»

«Better to have a residential complex built than this snake pit… I live nearby, I»ve experienced all the charms of the market, and I haven«t been there for 5 years. I»m disgusted.«

As reported by bailiffs, only «Pravy Temer» and «Bely Temer» were temporarily closed, where sellers were operating in violation of the law. The «Vostochny» market continues to operate. We published a photo report from the scene.
