Sudden -20°C drop forecast for Volgograd region, meteorologists warn
As the cold front moves in, frost is set to return to Volgograd with the arrival of nighttime.
Meteorologists and rescuers are warning Volgograd residents of a sharp change in weather and the return of severe frosts. Moreover, the shift in weather conditions will occur in just a couple of hours.
The cause of the atmospheric changes will be the passage of a cold front through the region, carrying Arctic air masses. Under such conditions, rain will turn into snow, and temperatures will begin to drop sharply.
According to forecasts from the Volgograd Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Volgograd TsGMS), on February 1, in some areas, wet snow accumulation on wires and trees is expected, along with complex ice and frost deposition combined with strong winds — up to 20 meters per second — and a sharp cooling.
According to the service «Yandex Weather», in Volgograd, the transition through 0°C is expected from 14:00 to 15:00. By 20:00, the city will already be at -7°C (19°F), and on the morning of February 2, on the Day of Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, forecasters predict -16°C (3°F).
The cold will continue to grip the region on Monday, February 2. Overnight across the oblast, temperatures will drop to -20°C (-4°F), with clearing skies — down to -25°C (-13°F), during the day — from -9°C (16°F) to -14°C (7°F), and in the north — even during the day down to -18°C (0°F).
