Substation Shutdown Causes Blackout in Sestroretsk

Part of Sestroretsk in the Kurortny District of Saint Petersburg plunged into darkness on the evening of January 29. The power supply was cut off at approximately 7 p.m.

Residents in Sestroretsk faced power loss and disrupted water supply during the evening blackout.

The cause of the incident was reported by Alexander Zabaikin, head of the Kurortny District. In his Telegram channel at 7:33 p.m., he stated that the blackout occurred due to a «technical shutdown of a substation» and quoted energy workers: «According to Lenenergo, restoration work will take about 1.5 hours.»

Crews from Rosseti Lenenergo responded promptly to the equipment failure to restore electricity services.

The publication Fontanka notes that residents of the affected area faced not only a lack of light but also disruptions in water supply, as well as cooling heating radiators.

The press service of Rosseti Lenenergo confirmed the accident. «Specialists from Rosseti Lenenergo are conducting restoration work in Sestroretsk, Kurortny District of Saint Petersburg, after a technological failure in the equipment. The company»s teams went to the site immediately after receiving a signal about the power supply disruption,« according to an official statement.
