Sharp cold snap approaches Volgograd Oblast

Residents of Volgograd and the oblast are warned of a rapid deterioration in weather conditions. According to forecasts from meteorologists and rescuers, severe frosts will return to the region in the coming hours.
The cause will be a cold atmospheric front that will bring Arctic air with it. This will cause a sharp drop in temperature, and rain will change to snow.
The Volgograd Hydrometeorological Center (TsGMS) reports that on February 1, the following are forecast in some areas:
- accumulation of wet snow on wires and trees;
- complex ice and frost deposits;
- wind gusts of up to 20 meters per second.
According to the service Yandex.Pogoda, in Volgograd, the temperature crossing zero degrees is expected between 14:00 and 15:00. By 20:00, thermometer readings will drop to -7°C (19°F), and by the morning of February 2, on Victory Day in the Battle of Stalingrad, it will cool to -16°C (3°F).
The frosts will intensify on Monday, February 2. Overnight across the oblast, the temperature will be -20°C (-4°F), and with clearing — down to -25°C (-13°F). During the day, temperatures from -9°C (16°F) to -14°C (7°F) are expected, in the north of the region — down to -18°C (0°F).
