«Road patrols are about three times more numerous than usual today. The area around the Kremlin has been cordoned off, and tourists are wandering, asking, »What«s going on?» but getting no answers,« said a journalist in the Mokhovaya Street area.

At metro stations, security forces armed with automatic rifles and dog handlers are present, while police cars are stationed at exits in pedestrian zones. Internet service in the subway and walkways is poor. Many vehicles with special markings are seen on the roads.

Access to several landmarks and a proper stroll through the heart of Moscow is currently impossible.

«The area near Pashkov House, home to the Monument to Prince Vladimir, is effectively closed off. Visitors have to take pictures from about 300 meters away, as everyone is being told that access is prohibited today,» an MSK1.RU correspondent reported.

Since early morning, authorities have been shutting down streets in the capital. Among the first roads closed were Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge, Moskvoretskaya Embankment, and Kremlyovskaya Embankment. All updates on traffic are available in our online report.
