Rostov Students Spend Most on Food Each Month

Avito analysts report that students in Rostov-on-Don spend an average of 35,000 rubles ($380) per month, primarily on food, and many economize by avoiding takeaway coffee and taxis.

January 25 is Student Day in Russia. Avito analysts discovered how much students at Rostov universities spend on average and what they save on.

On average, Rostov students spend 35,000 rubles (about $380) per month. The money primarily goes to basic needs. Most often, it«s on food — 43% of respondents named this category. Transportation, books, and stationery account for 32%, housing for 30%. A significant portion is spent on technology and software for studies — mentioned by 16% of students. Cafes and ready-made food are expenses for 13% of those surveyed, clothing and shoes for 11%.

«Nearly every second surveyed student (46%) spends up to 30,000 rubles (about $326) per month on all this. Another 40% spend from 30,000 to 60,000 rubles (about $326 to $652). From 60,000 to 100,000 rubles (about $652 to $1,100) is spent by 14%. On average in Rostov-on-Don, it»s 35,000 rubles (about $380) per month,« the study states.

Students save on coffee and other takeaway drinks — this option was named by 32% of respondents. Another 27% try to spend less on public transport and taxis, and 22% give up paid entertainment. To save on canteens and cafes, 22% try to eat only at home. Another 21% don«t go to paid gyms and exercise at home or use student discounts.

«At the same time, 5% of students claim they don»t save at all and try not to deny themselves anything. In groups with more modest expenses — from 8,000 to 15,000 rubles (about $87 to $163) and from 15,000 to 30,000 rubles (about $163 to $326) per month — such respondents are noticeably fewer: 3% and 4% respectively,« the analysts conclude.

Many students — 43% of those surveyed — save with the help of discounts and cashbacks in apps and services. Student discounts are used by 37%. Another 32% compare prices, and 31% buy everything necessary on sales. And every fourth buys goods second-hand.
