On the morning of January 26, three moose were observed in St. Petersburg near the traffic-heavy Primorsky Highway.

An image depicts the area where moose often cross roads in St. Petersburg.

Employees of a nearby auto service explained that an animal trail passes through this area, which the animals regularly use.

In mid-January, moose were already spotted in the same area, for example, on Ivinskaya Street. During the winter period, males often form groups, which helps them survive the cold more safely.

The appearance of moose on the roads of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast is a common occurrence. When caught in headlights, the animals lose their orientation, so flashing high beams is not recommended — it may provoke them to move towards the car.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed, even to a stop, and wait until the moose leave the roadway.

Wild animals in dangerous situations or posing a threat to people can be reported to the mobile environmental service phone number: 417-59-36.

Recommendations for what to do if a collision with a wild animal occurs are available via the link.
