The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, discussed the shortage of public Wi-Fi in Kazan against the backdrop of frequent restrictions imposed for security reasons. He stated this at a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Digital Development, Information Technologies, and Communications.

«Wi-Fi performs very well in public places, but there is clearly not enough of it. It is no secret that today«s restrictions are related to security; there is no other way, we need to deal with these issues,» he noted.

The Minister of Digital Development of the republic, Ilya Nachvin, added that it is necessary to expand Wi-Fi coverage at public transport stops, markets, near polyclinics, and multifunctional centers (MFCs).

«I ask communication operators to take this into account when expanding the network,» Nachvin noted.

Recall that in Tatarstan, a map of free public Wi-Fi points has appeared. In the republic«s capital, free internet can be accessed at 841 points. Regional authorities explained that internet is jammed to combat drone raids.
