Landslides strike three Sochi districts in a day, authorities tackle aftermath

Over the past 24 hours, trucks have made almost 20 trips to haul away soil.
Work is ongoing in Sochi to deal with the consequences of ground movements that occurred in three different points of the city. Due to the situation at one of the sites, a local state of heightened readiness has been introduced.
In the Khostinsky district, special equipment is clearing the road near the garden partnership «Korchaginets» after a repeated landslide.
In the Adler district, an emergency regime has been introduced in the area of the house at Petrozavodskaya Street, 26/5 due to ground movement from a neighboring plot. Moreover, last night a mudflow came down on the highway leading to the settlements of Solokh-Aul and Tretya Rota, where about 30 cubic meters of soil were promptly removed.
«Communications are not damaged, water and power supply to residents is fully operational. There is no threat to residential buildings,» said the press service of the Sochi administration, commenting on the situation in the Khostinsky district.
Meanwhile, the weather at the resort is improving for the better. According to weather forecasts, the entire next week in Sochi will be sunny, with daytime temperatures rising to +14 degrees Celsius (57°F). This is good news for the city, where landslide processes have been activated due to three days of rain.
