An emergency occurred at the thermal power plant in Kurgan at 06:32 on 29 January. This caused the electricity and water supply to be cut off in residents« homes.

The press service of Vodny Soyuz (Water Union) explained that due to the electricity supply limitation, pumps at the Arbinsky water intake were temporarily stopped. Within an hour, the facilities were switched to a backup power source and electricity was restored to most Kurgan residents.

Kurgan Generating Company explained that a short circuit occurred on the 10 kV generator switchgear at TPP-1, leading to a temporary power cut for a number of consumers. The emergency in the city was dealt with promptly.

On Saturday evening, an accident occurred on the Sever-2 heat main. Heating was cut off in the Severny district. People in the comments complained of cold radiators and no hot water in apartments in the central part of the city. The accident was fixed on Sunday.

Former director of KIZHK detained

This week, searches were conducted at the home of the former director of the Kurgan Mortgage and Housing Corporation (KIZHK). Mobile phones, computer equipment, electronic data storage devices, and documents of interest to the investigation were seized. He was sent to a pre-trial detention center for two months.

According to the Investigative Committee, the former general director and the head of the department for working with co-borrowers of KIZHK Joint-Stock Company acted as an organized group in March 2025. Representatives of In-Stroy LLC were also involved: the group of suspects persuaded a Trans-Ural resident to buy a plot of land with an unfinished building for 2.5 million rubles (about $27,800 at current rates).

Recall that in July 2025, it became known that the Chelyabinsk developer In-Stroy deceived families with many children by not building them houses in the villages of Kolesnikovo and Bolshoye Chausovo in Ketovsky District. Investigators opened a criminal case on fraud.

New bus on the streets of Kurgan

A new Lotus-branded bus has been launched in Kurgan on a trial basis. It entered route No. 57 «1st Microdistrict — Krivolapova Street».

The new Lotus bus is longer than others — 12.5 meters (41 ft) in total. It is fully low-floor with three doors and is adapted for people with disabilities. It has an increased area for passengers with strollers and features air conditioning. The bus will be tested until mid-February. Kurgan residents are asked to evaluate its convenience, comfort, and accessibility.

Trans-Ural resident cheated out of almost 6 million rubles

A 60-year-old Trans-Ural resident wanted to buy a BMW X5 from the Republic of Korea. He found his «dream car» on one of the websites and left his contact details.

The press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Kurgan Region reported that soon a man who introduced himself as a manager called the resident and offered to transfer 4.5 million rubles (about $50,000 at current rates) for the chosen car. The man transferred the required amount, and then he was called again and asked to pay for border document processing. But the long-awaited car never arrived for the Trans-Ural resident.
