Krasny Oktyabr Improves Product Quality Through Equipment Modernization

The Krasny Oktyabr metallurgical plant has modernized a centerless lathe in the metal rolling finishing shop (TsOMP), which is used for the finish turning of round-section rolling stock with diameters from 50 to 210 mm. The improvements implemented, including fully automated control of the unit, will enhance the surface quality of the finished products.

As part of the modernization, the process of metal rolling processing was fully automated by installing a modern production process control system, which ensures geometric accuracy and uniformity of the metal surface finish before shipment to the customer.
Specialists also updated the systems and components of the machine — now the metal rolling is fed into the processing zone via an electromechanical drive. The tool itself — lathe cutters — has been replaced with wear-resistant carbide inserts and tool holders. This solution allows for increasing the efficiency of the unit and reducing costs on consumables.
On the updated machine in TsOMP, round-section metal rolling with diameters from 180 to 210 mm and lengths from 3.5 to 6 m is already undergoing successful finish turning; soon, processing of products with smaller diameters and possible lengths from 2 to 6 m will begin.

Modernization measures have been implemented at Krasny Oktyabr since 2023. During this time, the main rolling and steelmaking equipment has been updated and brought into compliance with standards and requirements, modern technologies aimed at optimizing production processes and increasing their efficiency have been introduced, and working conditions have been improved.
