«The accumulation of freshly fallen snow during this period may exceed half of the monthly norm. Moreover, precipitation will continue afterwards — until the end of the week. Weather conditions may contribute to the formation of snowdrifts and icy conditions,» reported the capital«s Department of City Services.

Residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region have been asked to refrain from using personal vehicles during this time if possible. If unavoidable, to be attentive on the road, observe speed limits and distance, and not obstruct the movement of snowplow columns.

As snow falls, utility workers will clear roads, sidewalks, and yards. If necessary — use deicing agents.

At the beginning of 2026, Moscow was hit by cyclone «Francis», which buried streets in snow and paralyzed transport. Meteorologists noted that in terms of intensity, the blizzard was among the top five strongest in the last 146 years, and the height of snowdrifts reached half a meter.

MSK1.RU, as is tradition, calculated how much snow utility workers expect to collect this winter and how much money was spent on it.
