Connection speed measured in Chita: what the study found

In Chita, as in other cities, connection quality is often felt in simple things: how quickly a call goes through and how well the other party is heard. Against this background, the results of a federal study comparing voice call quality among different mobile operators sparked interest.
The analysis was conducted by the company DMTEL. In 2025, a 10-month drive-test took place in 82 cities across the country. In total, about 328,000 connections were made on the networks of four mobile operators. The assessment considered both regular calls and calls via VoLTE — a technology that allows talking and using mobile internet simultaneously.
According to the test results, the highest share of successful connections was with the operator Megafon. It was 98.69%. Moreover, the average call setup time was 24% lower than the nearest competitor. Speech intelligibility during calls (MOS score) was rated at 3.92 out of 5. For VoLTE calls, the average speech quality score reached 4.45 out of 5, and the share of successful connections was 99.05%.
«Voice communication remains a basic service for millions. We are consistently developing network capabilities for user communication and were the first to launch VoLTE nationwide, and later in international roaming,» noted the operator«s technical director Alexey Titov.
DMTEL notes: such studies allow comparing networks under real-use conditions — while moving and under different loads, not just in laboratory scenarios.
Today, network development continues in the region. Last year, 30% more base stations were modernized across the country. Moreover, the transport infrastructure was updated: now fiber-optic communication lines cover 89% of settlements with a population of over 10,000 people.
