Chita Dormitory Without Water for Second Day After Pipeline Accident
Residents of the dormitory at 1a Zhelezobetonnaya Street, near School No. 17 in Chita, have been without water for the third day. This was reported to a Chita.Ru correspondent on January 22 by one of the local residents.
Closer to the evening on January 20, it became known that the construction contractor LLC «Irbit» damaged the cold water supply pipeline near School No. 17 in Chita. Due to the pipeline damage, 26 apartment buildings and four social facilities were left without water. At 18:35 on the same day, specialists from «Vodokanal-Chita» fixed the damage.
«We have a dormitory that belongs to the administration of the Zheleznodorozhny district of the city. After that accident, which the media wrote about, all houses were connected, there was water delivery there, but our dormitory was not supplied, there was no delivery to us. People have been sitting without water supply for two days, and we have children and elderly living here. By this morning, everything is unchanged—nothing has been repaired in the basement. And they don»t even promise a water truck,« the publication»s interlocutor said.
A representative of the managing organization «Alpha-Ideal,» which has been servicing the dormitory since December 2025, confirmed to the Chita.Ru correspondent that problems in the building arose after an emergency situation on the main pipeline.
«Vodokanal-Chita had a burst on the line the day before yesterday, they fixed it. After that, they supplied too much pressure, and a pipe burst in the basement. Now the situation is: Vodokanal»s valves are on the street, only they can shut them off with some of their tools, we don«t even touch them, it»s not our jurisdiction. Yesterday they were ready to come in the evening and shut it off. The basement dried for a day, to weld, so the pipe would be dry. But Vodokanal couldn«t come because of the frost. They refused to shut off the main line. Right now we are gathering the whole team there, welders. Vodokanal will also come there. They will shut off that line for us, we will have about an hour to do everything. We will manage today, we will supply water to people,» the managing company representative said.
He emphasized that the delay in repair was due to the fact that the pipe in the basement needed to dry properly so that the welding would hold: «Therefore, people sat without water for another day. Today Vodokanal will shut off the main line so we can finish welding. Now the main line is working in a small mode so that it doesn»t freeze at night, so it doesn«t burst. The main line is flowing, but not so strongly. It flows to the branch—we set it so the pipe is normal.»
The prosecutor«s office of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Chita has already organized an inspection after the damage to the main pipeline by the contractor: »During the inspection, representatives of the prosecutor«s office will assess the compliance of authorized bodies and organizations with legal requirements when conducting construction work, as well as eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation and observing the housing rights of citizens.»
