Chernobyl Liquidators Memorial Planned for Central Chita

The competition aims to select a design for the Chernobyl liquidators memorial in Chita by mid-March.
A memorial for the liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster is planned to be installed at the corner of Lenin and General Belik streets in Chita — the regional ministry of culture has announced a competition for sketches of the monument. This was reported on the website of the regional ministry of culture on January 23.
The author of the best project will receive 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,100 at current rates), and the monument will be installed in Chita based on their sketch.
Project authors can choose from the following concepts: «Preserving the memory of people affected by the Chernobyl disaster and other radiation incidents»; «The heroic feat of the liquidators»; «Lessons from the accident for improving technology safety and protecting people and nature».
Organizers will accept both individual and collective applications until February 27. The letter must include 3D models, layouts, or graphic sketches, as well as a text describing their artistic concept. In addition to the concept, authors must propose options for improving the area adjacent to the monument.
The winner will be announced after March 15 and will receive 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,100 at current rates).
